Laura Wills

Laura Wills b.1981, is an Adelaide based multidisciplinary artist.

She explores social and environmental themes using found materials, collaborative processes and site-specific ephemeral projects. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Applied Design from Adelaide Centre of the Arts (2003), and a Bachelor of Visual Arts Honors, from The School of Art Architecture and Design, (2011). Since 2004, she has exhibited nationally and internationally as well as participating in several Australian and international residencies.

This new work is the beginning of a portrait series of women who grow food. It stems from a concern about what we eat and where we buy it from. By creating portraits of these women who grow food I am celebrating their skills, profession and important position in our community. Portraits include Lucy Chan (Hot) from Village Greens, Hannah Maloney (Power) from Goodlife Permaculture, Annemarie Brookman (High) from Food Forest, Diana Bickford (Nurture) from Bickleighvale Farms and Claudia Peoples (Deep) Garden Specialist.

“Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to enough safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy lifestyle.” World Food Summit 1996.
