‘Nocturnes’
When I was a little boy my grandmother used to come over to stay with
my brother and me on the nights my parents went out and then around
midnight when my dad would drive my grandmother back home I
would always accompany them. Lying on the back seat of the car I
would peer out of the car windows and watch the trees and bushes and
dark houses flash by.
I am fascinated with the way imagery triggers memories, even from the
distant past, so I’ve set out to recapture those glimpses of trees, gardens
and dark houses punctuated by the odd lighted window or street lamp
and find that peace I felt once again. Those people, those nights have
long gone, but the memory of them still hovers around me caught in
the net of these images.
